EXHIBITION IN THE GALLERY PSTROSSOVA 23
"Reciprocities"
13.12.2024 - 4-2.2025
Abstraction, as a specific category of non-representation
art, possesses a unique will to interpret reality differently. Through
separation of form and content from a clearly signifying iconography,
abstraction offers a world where one can contemplate and discuss
beyond the dichotomies of psychosocial, cultural and political
norms. Trapped in the rigid shackles of materiality in the world
of abstraction becomes irrelevant.
If an age can be defined by abstraction, it is today's.
Paintings by Kateřina Štenclova
enter fearlessly into this arena with playfulness and exaggeration,
playing out a heady and fleeting polemic about what kind of
the possibilities of the topography of abstract painting, and how, as a result
the landscape of the perceiver's body is transformed.
In the abstract world of the artist, a fundamental
discourse between the infinite and the ephemeral, first and foremost
at the level of colour. The artist's monumental canvases draw in
the viewer into their colour field. From a distance, through the sensation of
this first touch of color, the eye is freed from its
scientific interpretation, and becomes a passive receptor instead of a
of light, an active participant in the haptic energy
field that emanates from the individual works.
