Tichý Frantisek

Famous Czech painter and graphic artist.

He was born on March 25th, 1893 in Prague, where he died on October 7th 1961. František Tichý studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, and then he travelled to France and America. At the beginning of his career he devoted himself to the theater, he worked as a stage designer, for example for Švandovo theater in Prague, later he moved to painting. His work is considered to be one of the most important milestones of the Czech interwar avant-garde. With his eclectic motifs, he has penetrated into many spheres, from still life, landscape paintings, through portraits or the city paintings. The most frequent inspiration, however, were the circus motifs.
