Painter and designer
The production of Dominik Běhal shows an interest in the memory of the painting media and history as such. It develops the traditional painting genres of landscape, still life or interior, which in his paintings take on various forms: scenes from castle gardens, atmospheric fragments of architecture and other traditional motifs.
His strong inspiration is historical documents, old newspaper articles, or magazines, where he searches for impulses with the flood of forgotten images, with which he can continue to work. For his canvases, he selects motifs that, thanks to his anchor in our historical visual subconscious, can carry subliminal emotional messages. Unclear contours and flickering of light make the subject of the world in question seem more relaxed and free up space for our memory to complement the story itself and their individual meanings.
