Gross Frantisek

Famous Czech painter and graphic artist, member of Group 42 and Hollar.

Born on April 19th, 1909 in Nová Paka, died  on July 27th, 1985 in Prague. František Gross was born in Nova Paka, but after his studies he moved to Prague, where he began his artistic career in Umělecká beseda and later in Group 42 or Hollar. His works are characterized by strong cubist tendencies, and undeniable effects of surrealism and impresionism. For his main motifs, he chose frequently the city and the technical civilization as such.
